Baby Update

These are ultrasound pictures that were taken when I was 9 weeks and 5 days along. I am now 16 weeks and 3 days, so the baby looks a lot different from these pictures, but I thought I would share them anyways.

I still haven't taken any belly pictures. I really wish we had already because time seems to be flying by and my tummy is growing SO FAST! Everyday at work I hear people commenting on how fast I'm growing, and then they try and tell me that I'm not that big. Ummm, I'm only 16.5 weeks. Other people only start showing at this stage, and I've been showing for a couple months now. But I know it runs in my family to start showing early and get really big.. Oh the things I have to look forward to! I know it's all worth it though.

May 11th is the day that we find out what gender this baby is! We are super excited and would like to know what you think we will be having? Please comment or vote!

Silence is Broken

I know I haven't posted in awhile. I guess we've been a little preoccupied. Plus, there's not much to talk/blog about when you only have one thing on your mind that you want to announce to the world, but just can't. Yes, it's true, Dan and I are having a baby! I know a lot of you have been waiting for this announcement for a long time now, but I am very excited for this big change in our lives.

We found out the big news on January 31, 2010. Dan was about to leave for his early morning Sunday meetings and I had to get up and pee so I thought I would take a test (I wasn't expecting anything from it). From being disappointed by negative tests in the past, I just couldn't look at this one. I asked Dan to go in and read it, and he went in a rush because he was running late, saw it, but didn't know what anything meant. So before he left I went in to look and it was positive! I had to double check a few times, and I was jumping up and down following Dan down the hall then he eventually left. I couldn't believe it! And neither could Dan because when he came home to pick me up for church, he came through the door and said, "Do you really think you're pregnant?" I had to take two more tests for Dan to believe me, and even then I think he was still in shock. So that week I went to the doctors and they sent me in for blood tests...I don't like needles. Then the clinic called me back and said they had to re-do the tests because they used my maiden name instead and it didn't match my Alberta Health Care Card. Which didn't make sense to me and I was pretty upset about it, especially when my family doctor said that I really didn't have to re-do anything. Grrrr! But I survived.

The next weekend was my birthday weekend and we decided we should tell our families because I couldn't keep it a secret for that long. I had to tell someone. So that Saturday was my niece's 4th Birthday party. We thought it would be fun to announce it in the card so that when the card was read out loud, everyone would hear. My nephew was the one reading the cards and when it came to mine, no one was listening except Keegan who was reading it, and his dad. Keep in mind, I was filming this, so I told Keegan to read it again and everyone heard "Happy Birthday Clare! Love, Aunty Kelly, Uncle Dan, and your future cousin!!" Everyone was so excited, but not as excited as my sister Tammy was! She was screaming and jumping and she charged right for me to give me a hug and spin me around. She started crying, then I started crying. It was so much fun.

The next day was my birthday, and it was also Dan's nephew's 1st birthday party. So we went over to Spencer and Laurie's house to celebrate with Dan's parents. We figured we could do the same thing with the birthday card, so this time Dan's mom read the card out loud and everyone was so excited! I think Laurie has been waiting for this announcement ever since we got married haha! And at this time, the doctor had told me that I was due August 16. That meant that we couldn't go to the Glenn Family vacation this year. We were pretty sad about it, but I just knew I wasn't already 3 months along. I told the doctor that I had been very irregular for more than a year, but they had to go by my dates at that time. So they booked me for an ultra sound and I found out that I was really due October 4! The doctor was so far off! I was happy that we could go on the vacation, but kind of sad that I was put back a couple months. Also at this time, I wasn't feeling sick at all, but about a week after we made the announcement to our families, I started getting really sick. I thought that part was over already. Now I'm on medication for it and it's been helping quite a bit. We still don't know if we're having a boy or a girl, but we plan on finding out sometime in May.

On Facebook I announced that I was pregnant on April 1, to see who would believe me, but it turned out that most people did believe me! Too bad it wasn't a trick because you all would have been fooled! Oh well, I'm happy it wasn't because now we get to see our family grow and we'll get to experience new things.

I wanted to post my ultrasound pictures, but I can't find the disk at the moment. I will post later maybe with some belly shots that I still haven't taken!

Thanks for all the congrats everyone!

Good-Bye Gunther

I am sad to announce that our pet family has lost a member. On Friday February 26, 2010, we gave up Gunther, my bunny, so that he could be with a better family. We found that we didn't have enough time to pay extra attention to him that he really wanted and needed. Gunther was my first pet away from home, and always will be. I think about him a lot and hope that he's doing well. I know that Izzie misses him a lot too. Especially now that she's maturing and still not fixed. Gunther loved playing with Izzie and always welcomed her into his cage. At least we won't have to worry about any surprise half bunny half cat babies!

I'll admit that Gunther can be a grump, but he always knew who I was and loved it when I came home and gave him love and attention. I'll never forget the little kisses he would give me over the top of his cage as I was passing by. For being a grumpy bunny he sure was a sweetheart at times.

Dan's 28!

Yesterday was Dan's 28th birthday! It's hard to believe that when we first met and started dating, he was 24. Now in just over a week, I'll be turning 24!

We both had to work on his birthday so we celebrated by going out for dinner at Joey Tomato's. It turned out that we ran into one of Dan's high school classmates there too. She was the one serving us! It was a nice night to get out and spend quality time together.

Through all the years that we've been together, I still love Dan more and more everyday. Happy birthday babe!

I Made the Cut

I can't remember the last time I had my hair this long! I was sort of attached to it, but I hated it at the same time. Anytime I went to pick something up, all I saw was my own hair! Even when I bent down to pet my cats, all they saw was a big hair mass coming to give them love, which I don't think they minded. So last night my sister Tammy set us both up for hair appointments with this great lady in Airdrie for 6:30pm. She first did Tammy's coloring (I've never had my hair colored before, and it was neat to see it being done to someone I know) and then while that was setting in she washed and cut my hair. I was a bit nervous because I hadn't even decided on a nice cut before I got there. I saw one that I liked in one of her magazines while I was waiting for her to finish with Tammy's coloring, so it was literally a last minute choice! But I'm satisfied with the end result.

After she was finished styling my hair, she started cutting Tammy's hair. I would like to see if anyone could find thicker hair than Tammy's hair! Tammy's cut took the longest and she only got a couple inches taken off. Poor Tammy having to deal with that on top of her head everyday! Even her daughter Emma says that it's always poofy. We were there until just before 10:00pm, then I dropped Tammy off at home which was only a few blocks away, and heard Emma tell me that her mom's hair "looked kinda silly". I guess she's not used to seeing it so straight and "normal". I left soon after and I got home at 10:30pm.

I do miss my long hair, but I never did anything with it. I'm really loving my new do though! It's a nice change.

Forgot to Mention...

While we were in Edmonton, Dan finally convinced me to go on this with him:
The huge red one. It took me awhile at the top, but I finally went down! Dan was pretty proud of me because he thought for sure that I wouldn't go down. He first talked me into going on that purple one beside it, and then I don't know how he got me to go on the red one, it was really scary, but I'm glad I was able to experience it.

A New Start to 2010

I have a few 'New Years Resolutions' and I thought that it might be easier to stick with it if I post them on the blog. Here they are, in no particular order:

1. Once again... buy a house! More so stick to a budget to get to this goal.

2. Get back into shape, and eat healthier.

3. Develop a closer relationship with Heavenly Father.

4. Develop a closer relationship with Dan.

5. Spend more time with family, especially with those I don't see very often.

6. Keep in touch with friends, old and new.

7. Up keep our living space better.

8. Be happy. Don't let little things stress me out.

9. Find what I'm good at and stick with it.

10. This one is a 'personal' goal, and it kind of depends on if #1 works out...maybe not. I don't want to jinx it.

New Years Eve 2009!

Wow, Christmas and New Years just came and went by so fast! Dan and I were debating on whether or not we should go away for New Years this year, but in the end we chose to stay. Dan DJ'ed an "All White" YSA party at the China Rose Restaurant (the same place the Halloween party was held). It was a really good turn out too! Mostly everyone was dressed in white so there was a big glow over the crowd with the two huge black lights that Dan brought. I think that Dan did a pretty good job this year with the music. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed their time there. Here are a couple pictures of the "glowing" effect.

Before the party, Dan and I were at Dan's parents' place (who were in San Francisco) as Dan had to load up some DJ equipment for the party, using a U-Haul trailer attached the the Escape. We were there for awhile and ordered pizza for dinner. As we were leaving in separate vehicles, we noticed two police cars coming the opposite way that we were going. We didn't really think anything of it until I noticed a cop car behind me, then shortly after I noticed another one pull up beside me and stay there until he rolled his window down and looked at me. I looked back and then they drove up to Dan and did the same thing. I thought maybe they were just looking for someone in the area, until they turned their lights on Dan when he tried to move into their lane, and then the cop behind me turned their lights on. So we both pulled over, totally confused. A lady cop came to my window as two guys went to Dan's. She tells me right away why they pulled me over. Just keep in mind too, that night the roads were really bad, and we were both going 60 kms in an 80 kms zone, so I knew it wasn't because we were speeding. She told me that there was a call made explaining that their neighbors are away and there were a couple cars outfront with a U-Haul trailer and someone was loading things in from the house. Oh boy. I told the cop that the house was my husband's parents' house and that we store his DJ equipment there. She completely understood, but took my license anyways just in case. She talked with the other cops who were talking to Dan and our stories matched, so they just typed in our names to scan us and it all turned out good. It was a good way to end off the year 2009. We'll definitely remember that one! Oh, and Dan and I figured that it must have been the girl who was watching his parents' cat. She must have drove by the house to feed her and noticed us there. Thanks for calling the cops though, if something really was going down, it's nice to know that their house is under careful watch when they are away.

That night, Dan and I got to bed really late. I didn't get to bed until about 3:30am, and Dan didn't get to bed until about 4:30am. Plus, Dan had to work that next morning. Needless to say, we slept for most of the next day. I can't believe we used to be able to stay up that late and have almost no effect the next day. Those days are long gone though. I need my sleep, or I am a huge grump the next day, and totally not functional.

We have started off 2010, and no complaints! We have been relaxing and spending time together. Last Saturday, we traveled to Edmonton early in the morning, and went swimming at the West Edmonton Mall Waterpark. I thought it would be really busy there, but it wasn't too bad. We left the pool at about 3:00pm, walked around the mall, ate dinner at Boston Pizza, then walked around the mall for a little longer then headed home. It was a nice day trip, and it was good just to get away for a little bit.

Happy New Year for 2010!!

Christmas in Review

Well, it's the end of 2009, and what a year it was! I don't know if it's just me, or did this year just fly by? It's hard for me to believe that Christmas is already over, and now we are preparing ourselves to welcome 2010.

Sorry, this post is going to be a long one!

This Christmas went a little differently as planned. Dan's parents' planned their Christmas dinner for 4:00pm, so we decided to hit up my parents' place first. We woke up Christmas day, and I woke up pretty early because I was just so excited that it was Christmas, and I have to say, I haven't felt that way that early in the morning in a long time! Dan was surprised that I was the one dragging him out of bed instead of the other way around. I think the cats were just as excited too.

We finally got up and looked in our stockings that Dan so graciously organized for everyone, then opened our presents from each other.

I got Dan a tie-organizer (which he asked for last year, but I couldn't find a good one), a little vacuum cleaner for his car (he loves keeping his car clean...on the outside at least. I thought this one might help him a little), a hat that he actually picked out so I can't take credit for that one, and cologne.

We didn't want to spend too much this year because we have other goals in mind. I have to admit though, that Dan didn't spend much at all! He had me believe that he hadn't even started shopping until a couple days before Christmas. Then I found these wrapped up under the tree...

Yup, that's a fruit cup, an empty toad head candy container, a pack of jello mix, and an empty cologne box. But there was a little note attached to each one. So I had to go find my presents around the house so that there was no way that I would guess what my presents were by looking at them all wrapped up under the tree! The first one I opened was the fruit cup which had a note "look in the bathroom cupboard", then the toad head with "look in the linen closet", then the jello pack with "look behind the computer monitor" (which he hid that one on my pillow because he had me wait in the computer room so that he could get ready), then finally the cologne box with " look behind the couch". And this in what I got in that order...

If you can't see them in the picture that well, Dan got me a small jewelry box with my named engraved in it so that Izzie can't steal my earrings off my nightstand anymore (I'm still missing one), a sweater that looks like the one he got me last year but accidentally shrunk it in the wash on me (I think this one is even better), another cute red sweater, and last but not least, a Wii Fit Plus!! I really wanted a Wii Fit Plus, but knew that it would be sort of out of our budget for Christmas, but Dan got it for me :) What a great husband I have. Now I actually kind of feel bad for the few gifts that I got him. Good thing his birthday is coming up at the end of January so maybe I can try to make up for it. All in all, Christmas morning was so great! After opening our gifts, we made a delicious breakfast, played in the Wii Fit Plus, then got ready to head into Carstairs.

I just wanted to mention that this was Izzie's first Christmas, and I think she enjoyed it!

We arrived at my parents' house to find Kimberly, and my mom still in their pj's, and my dad. My brother Arlen and my sister Tammy and her family were supposed to be there too, but they didn't make it in time before we left for Dan's parents' place. I was pretty sad about it because I was really looking forward to seeing them. My mom told me afterward that we missed seeing my brother by about 3 minutes! I hope I will be able to see him soon, because it has already been a really long time since the last time that I saw him.

My parents did a really good job for Christmas this year! My mom tends to buy a lot of little things, mostly Christmas things, from the dollar store or other inexpensive places, which sometimes we don't use them all the time. However this year there was none of that! The first gift that I opened was a blender! But not just any blender, it was a blender that she had in her house all boxed up, unopened for years. I had my eye on it the whole time, and this year I finally got it! (thanks mom!) Maybe next year I'll get that Kitchen Aid that's been there for even longer *hint*hint* We also got the DVD Marley and Me (which I love!) with a Costco gift card taped to the back. Very sneaky mom and dad. A lot of us got a nice 72 hour emergency kit for a family of four. It even has coloring books! We also for a nice glass laser etched nativity scene, complete with a lighted base. Kimberly had me for Christmas this year and she gave me earrings as part of my gift. My parents also got all the married couples in the family a beautiful picture of Jesus, and we got this one of Jesus with children, which was framed.

After we said our goodbyes for the day to my parents and Kimberly, we traveled back into Calgary to Dan's parents' house to eat dinner at 4:00pm. It was so good too! Grandma Reese, and Spencer and Laurie and their 3 boys were there too. After dinner we opened gifts. Once again this year, Dan's parents' rented a beach house for the August Vacation! We are super excited! I also got a few lotions from Dan's mom and we also got some cash. This year we had Spence and Laurie's family for Christmas, and we got them a couple helicopter-type flying balls with lights, some toad-head candy and a chocolate train. It was really nice spending time with everyone there. Christmas Day was really busy for us, but at the same time it was quite relaxing. We then went home and just relaxed with our pets for the rest of the day.

Boxing day came and Dan had to work at 6:00am. Best Buy was crazy! I went for a little visit and it was so crowded! Then Dan told me that I should go and check out the new Banana Republic Outlet store a couple doors down. I don't normally like shopping there because I get so sad when I see something that I like and it's super expensive. But I went anyway to check it out, and it's a good thing I did! I got 5 tops, including a couple sweaters, for just over $61.00! What a great deal! I don't normally shop on boxing day because I just don't think it's worth the long waits and crowds of people everywhere, plus the horrible traffic. I guess this year was an exception. At about 4:00pm was the Olsen family dinner held at Kristie's house. I think everyone had a good time there. The only person missing was my brother Arlen. I miss seeing him. I feel like I don't know who he is anymore, and I miss that. Maybe this next year that will change. After dinner, more gifts were exchanged and Dan and I got a Magic Bullet! Then we just visited with one another. And of course, more family pictures were taken.

My work was closed the next Monday, and it was probably a good thing too because that day I got the flu. I was pretty bummed out, but we didn't have much planned for that day anyways. I can't remember the last time I got that sick. But hey, at least I lost a bunch of that "Christmas weight"!

I am most grateful that I was able to spend time with my family and loved ones. I think that is the best thing about this Christmas season, and I wish it could happen more than just once a year just for that purpose. I am grateful for the true meaning of Christmas and for the gospel that I am apart of.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas 2009, and cheers to the New Year 2010!
